Yearly Archives: 2010

December 31, 2010

Thank you, 2010, for all your goodness and thank you, God, friends, and loved ones, for making this year an incredible year.

2011 is all about advancing my career, saving money, taking more photos, and discovering good music. Are you ready?

I thought I’d end with the same-ish photo I started A Photo A Day with on December 26, 2009. This is me trying to be all symbolic/poetic but coming off lame more than anything.

Happy new year’s eve, everyone! Don’t drink and drive!

This is it. I’m obsessed. I downloaded all of Ambulance LTD’s songs and I want to go out and buy ten copies of their album to support the artist even though they haven’t done anything new since 2008 (and I RARELY buy CDs). One album wonders. Please come back!!! They remind me of our generation’s Beatles – hints of the same sound and harmonizing style with the lead singer’s voice sometimes sounding a bit like John Lennon’s, but actually softer and smoother. He is also kind of really cute minus the fact that he is stick thin.

Can I leave you with two rocking live performances? (1) Stay Where You Are because their outfits look like young Beatles. And (2) Ladyfingers because it’s their most unpopular song judging by its humble 3,700 YouTube views but it’s so good, it needs to be heard.

I’m addicted to THE XX and LISSIE. Thank you @BlurbPress for these genius reccos. I have a big list of bands to check out, I’m so excited!!! I’m going to have new favourites every day.

I’ll leave you with The XX’s Crystalised, so you can take a trip to heaven tonight.

And I’ll also leave you with Lissie’s phenomenal cover of Kid Cudi’s Pursuit of Happiness, because it makes me want to go on “livin’ my life, gettin’ out dreams”.

And oh yes – today’s photo of love notes in unfolded paper cranes. ;)

I watch A LOT of movies – at least three a week and I discover good, non-mainstream music primarily through movie soundtracks. I hate the radio and I hate top 40 (and I hate Hip Hop. I think I just offended the whole world with that statement. That’s okay.) It’s just that watching movies and frantically jotting down lyrics to songs that is played that I like and then Googling them afterwards is getting to be a slow process. I literally have a “Songs to Download” notepad app on my iPhone strictly to jot down lyrics to awesome songs that I catch in movies. But listen, I just want a fast and furious list of good music to either download or to have readily available in mp3s to pop into my playlist. Sarah has already given me 100 indie rock mp3s. My colleague Shaun is hooking me up with 200 more, my mamabear Melissa is generating a list, and Twitter peeps have recommended several good bands. Anybody else want to share their iTunes library? :)

Okay, so I’ll leave you with a little bit of 80’s love. Don’t You Forget About Me by Simple Minds. I watched Easy A last night and it reminded me of how good this song is. Good movie, too.

I picked up a pink Smashbox lipstick because I’ve been in lust with pink lipsticks for a while. It’s called POUT and it’s damn pretty. Then I went and got a pink manicure with OPI’s Pinking Of You, to match it (but also because I haven’t had a manicure since winter started and my fingers are growing filthy). The pink polka dot background in the photos is a pink polka dot gift bag that my boyfriend used to wrap my Christmas presents. God, I love pink.

Black Swan has effortlessly made it to my list of favourite movies and Darren Aronofsky is quickly becoming my favourite director. The Wrestler, Requiem for a Dream, and Black Swan all left me stunned and deeply in awe. All three are so beautifully dark and haunting – I am so in love with his style. He gets his characters inside your skin and you feel every single emotion they feel. And did I already say that I am in love with his style??? UNIQUE, ARTISTIC, DARK, HAUNTING, THRILLING. He’s so, so, sooo good. And these movies are sooo good. Don’t just watch Black Swan. Watch The Wrestler, too. Then watch Requiem for a Dream.

Last post from Monday’s photo date, I think it’s overkill now. We’ll revisit it in a couple of weeks. :)

Holiday break begins again. Packing my calendar with loved ones. Pencil me in, darling!

A Photo A Day’s one year anniversary is on Sunday, December 26th, 2010. This is one of my most rewarding personal projects ever. I don’t think I can live without this blog. Continuing on to A PHOTO A DAY TWENTY ELEVEN.

MARKETING keeps me creative. PHOTOGRAPHY keeps me creative. The two are inherently intertwined. I couldn’t excel in my role at work without photography stimulating my creativity when I’m off work . And I couldn’t rock and roll with photography without marketing stimulating my creativity when I’m at work. What I’m saying is that I’ve found my professional and personal niche. Here’s to further developing these niches in 2011!

I had an a-w-e-s-o-m-e and super productive five days off work. Productivity while on vacation is the way to go, my friends. Feels good. Back to work tomorrow but then off again from Friday to Monday. It’s sweet, I know. I’m actually excited to work. More vacation time leads to higher productivity and motivation. That’s a fact, so come on, give us more vacation time! You know, every time I take a few days off, I have so much fun that I daydream about soccer moms. Soccer moms who have rich husbands must be living the life. If I were a soccer mom, I’d take photos of my kids all day long and then take shopping breaks in between. I’ve noticed that there are tons of soccer-photographer moms on Flickr

There is an overflow of hot photos and it’s making me post more than one photo a day. Here are some more hot photos from yesterday’s photo date.
